I fell in love with Michael Miller’s gnome print.
I decided to do a simple 2-color herringbone quilt. Red and white is one of my favorite combinations. I set out to have a little bigger block, but my math skills are weak. I meant to have a 3.5 inch finished block, but instead I ended up with a 3 inch finished block. That meant that I would have to make a lot more blocks!
As a teacher, I have longer holiday breaks. So I was able to make and trim all of my blocks and sew them all together for a January 2nd long arm appointment. I was all ready to go 2 days early.
I have learned how to long arm my own quilts. There is a long arm rental business, O2b Quilting, about a half hour away. I have come a long way from my first attempt at long arm quilting. Due to a fate of circumstances, I was able to work there part-time this past summer. My skill set improved greatly!! I feel very comfortable loading my quilts, programming the APQS Millennium, and stitching out the quilt design.
I used a flowing snowflake pattern to reflect the snowy gnomes.
Plus I had an extended break due to extremely cold temperatures! Those 2 extra days allowed me to get a great start on my Moda Bake Shop Fairground in Scrumptious quilt and bind my Gnome quilt and Construction Ziggy Baby quilt.
Due to the weather, I wasn’t able to get a better picture. For some reason, my husband wasn’t all that excited to stand outside in the cold, wind, or snow for me to get the perfect picture. He tolerates lots, so I will humor him.
