I had been rolling around the idea of a black and white quilt lately. Karen, a friend at the quilt retreat, made a very cool log cabin quilt in black and white prints with red centers. I joined The Sassy Quilter’s Triangle Along. I saw a picture of an amazing black and white triangle quilt with pops of blue color at Freshly Handmade. I looked through my stash, the only black and white fabric I found was Halloween – lots of spiders, webs, and ghosts. Not really what I was looking for.
This is what I will be starting with, a mix of fat quarter and half yard cuts:
I purchased a fat quarter bundle from Pink Castle Fabrics. They have a great selection of stash builders and searching fabrics there is a breeze due to their organized website. I ordered the Black and White Blogger Bundle by Brenda from Just a Bit Frayed.
It was only later that I realized that I needed 30 fat quarters. Yeah, I bought 12. Whoops, guess I needed more black and white – ordered 14 more fat quarters and stack of solid purples. Next stop for purchasing, Pink Chalk Fabrics.
The solid fat quarter bundle has a great range of purples or “orchid”, Pantone color of the year. The binding is the 2nd color from the bottom. The Michael Miller Couture Cotton solid fabrics are incredibly soft. A quilt just of those fabrics would be dreamy!
I also stopped by my local quilt store for a few more black and white prints. The bundle that I am starting with is a mix of fat quarters and half yard cuts of black and white.
The curly mustache is my favorite print out of all of the black and white prints.
If I need to have more whites, I can stop at the LQS. The backing will be Architextures by Carolyn Friedlander 108 inch Black Crosshatch.
The Triangle quilt along will take place over 6 weeks. The plan is to get cutting this weekend and have it laid out by the end of our spring break (Thurs 3-28 & Friday 3-29). I have a long arm appointment scheduled for April 26th, so that will help motivate me to get this ready for that date.
