My Sewing Space – Messy Messy Messy

I have to admit that my sewing space was way too messy!  I knew that a reorganization was going to happen.  A new design wall was the impetus to get organized and attempt to have a better functioning craft zone.

When I walked down my basement steps, this is the view/mess that greeted you.

About 3 years ago, my crafting/sewing space was created for me.  My husband painted, put in flooring, and together we refinished an old desk.  My new craft space was beautiful.  After I started quilting, my fabric obsession/collection took over the room.  There were multiple attempts to reorganize, but there was more time spent just shoving things places.  I usually have an organized clutter mentality, but my sewing room was too much clutter!   A functional work space was needed – my sewing room was closing in on my sewing space.  I tend to have many WIPs happening – 2 different block of the month programs, a sew along, and other quilts in various states of finish.   Something had to be done!

A glimpse of my first organizational tool:  a framed pegboard with my rulers, templates, and other tools.  I found the old frame at a second hand store and painted it.

Here is more of my shame:

IMG_0036You can tell that I am a bit of a stacker.  If I don’t have the floor space, why not go up?  There are a minimum of 4 projects on the table along with the latest fabric delivery.

My WIPs and BOMs were stored in the Artbin containers.  Some of my quilting books and magazines were on the buffet along with my pickle jars of jelly rolls, selvedges, and binding.

My buffet mostly stored my paper, craft supplies, and Cricut cartridges.  Only one drawer was being used for fabric.  Do you see all of the fabric shoved under the buffet?  I quickly outgrew my drawer.  Soon, the stash started taking over more of the room.

The rocking chair became a catch-all spot when my husband isn’t hanging out with me while I sew.

As you can tell, my sewing room was cluttered and unorganized.  There was no wall space for my new design wall.  The room needed a major revamp.  I was starting to feel a bit trapped in my own mess.  Did you notice the first 2 rows of my Birds and Bees 100 Modern Block quilt?   Of course, why not do the reorganization while attempting to finish the Tula Pink Modern Blocks Sew Sweetness Sew Along!

If you have been following my blog, you know that the Bird and Bees 100 Modern Block quilt was completed in January.  I promise the updated sewing room reveal will happen soon!  Thanks to the destashing, I have a bit more room.  I need to finish up a couple projects, clean up the leftover mess from binding 3 quilts,  and then  will get pictures taken this weekend!

About My Pieced Life

I am in love with all things quilting. My sewing room has many works-in-progress and a large stash of fabric. I have big plans and lots of ideas of creations I would like to make. My wonderful husband supports my obsession and Carson, my Australian terrier, keeps me company while I sew.
