Prepping for a Long-Arm Quilting Appointment

I had a very productive Sunday this week!  Julie and I have an upcoming long-arming appointment on Sunday.

I was able to finish the quilt top of the Coming Soon Storybook baby quilt. Baby Norris arrived January 3rd!  Time to finish it up!

The purple backing of the 2014 Fall Mystery Quilt was sewn together.  This is for my mother–in-law’s birthday is in February.   I would like to have it ready for the party.  The binding is even cut!  I should be able to sew that together quickly.  The biggest accomplishment is that I have the zippers sewn on the backing!  I always procrastinate that and am usually sewing that on the night before my long-arming appointment.

I have the zippers sewn the backing of the Polka Dot Bow Tie quilt top.  I was able to purchase the backing for $6 a yard.  The large colorful dots go perfectly with the front – both are Riley Blake fabrics.  I might just actually have a quilt that costs less than $100 total.  (Kit w/ binding was $35, backing $10, will let you know the cost of binding and long-arming.)

I may be crazy, but here is the plan… I have 3 baby quilts that need to be quilted. If I use white minky, I can quilt one right after the other. Putting the quilt back on the rollers takes a little time. If I only have to do it once, I should be able to reduce the time it takes to long arm quilt.  I can quilt one right after the other on one big strip of backing.

How many yards of backing do I need? Well, my husband was kind enough to pick up 4½ yards on his way home from work Monday.  I called the LQS to see if they had white minky.  Five minutes before they close, I get a call from my husband asking me which white. Huh? Snow white, white, or off- white?  He is a good husband who totally enables my quilting habit!  If there is enough space, I might just sneak a 4th quilt, the plus sign polka dot quilt!

Zippers for that will be a bit of a beast! There will be 4½ yards of fluffiness that leads to lots of minky debris.  This will need to bet taken care of on Saturday.

If I accomplish all of this, I will make a serious dent in my APQ UFO 2015 Resolution list!
