I am pretty happy with how this quilt turned out! Considering it was a plan B option. My first quilt, All- Jacked Up, Honey, was tossed aside to make the November Retreat Mystery Quilt!
The top thread for quilting was a lavender and the bottom matched the purple backing. Sometimes if the tension is too tight, the bottom thread shows on the top. The tension was set correctly and any color that might have shown blended in with the colorful top fabric.
I like how the color of the thread on the backing subtlety shows off the quilting.
There are lots of flower quilt patterns, non of them worked with the hydrangeas. I went with leaves and butterflies to give the quilt a swirly movement.
At first I couldn’t decide what to use for binding. I went with the easiest route, matching the binding to the backing and binding to the purple blocks. Marian loves purple, how could I go wrong. The binding was made during one of my marathon binding making sessions. I was in the groove!
(Along with the binding for my Puppy Park Ziggy Baby, Mini Ziggurat, and Into the Woods Jacob’s Ladder Quilt.)
The binding has happened! It wasn’t easy! I used the same thread that I used to long arm quilt. For some reason there were skipped stitches and the thread kept breaking. I made it ¼ of the way before I gave up. I returned with different thread and was able to complete it. I even re-sewed the first side. Notice I didn’t say redo? That side is especially reinforced! I notice it, but others won’t. On the advice of a fellow quilter, I am going to make sure that I don’t point out the mistakes and just let the person enjoy her gift.
The birthday party is tomorrow! Definitely needed to complete this. I even have a purple gift bag! Marian is a very sweet lady who is very appreciative. I am sure that this quilt will be well-loved!
Linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts’ Finish It Up Friday! Thanks for hosting Amanda Jean!
Update: Marian loved her quilt!
